Hume Give · Typography

What the type has actually been doing

Before anyone reviews a design direction, this needs saying: the build has never loaded a web font. Every page anyone at Hume has looked at has rendered in a system fallback — Avenir Next Condensed on a Mac, Arial Narrow on Windows. So no typography feedback collected so far is feedback about any of the fonts under discussion.

Which means there is no incumbent to defend. The four specimens below are the same headline, the same sentence, and the same two numbers, set four ways at the sizes they would actually appear on the Give page.

Current

What you have actually been looking at

No web font has ever loaded in the build. macOS falls back to Avenir Next Condensed, Windows to Arial Narrow. The uppercase, the bold, and the tight line-height are a global CSS rule, not a typeface choice.

Newsreader

Production Type, SIL OFL, optical sizes 6–72. Sits deliberately between Photina and Mendoza — the closest match if the Figma instinct is what you want on screen. Slightly more voice than Source Serif.

Literata

TypeTogether, SIL OFL. Drawn for long-form reading on screen. The most legible of the three at small sizes — worth considering given how much of the giving audience is older.
